A Prayer Strategy for American Education

“Susan, I’ve heard that parenting gets easier after the third child.” I flippantly remarked to a friend of mine who had just had her fourth child. I will never forget her answer.

“Yes,” she replied. “I’ve heard that too and I’m going back to every one of those people and telling them they lied.” At the time, we laughed at her response, but in reality I knew my comment was given out of my lack of knowledge of what it takes to balance one more person/project in the life of an already busy mom. Now, many years later, I feel the same balancing act while writing the book  on Prayer Strategy for American Education. No matter how you cut it, it’s a lot of work. I’m very grateful to a lot of you for your prayers while this “baby” is being birthed. On occasion, I’m tempted to put it down and not finish, then I remember that this is my “baby” and to give up would be like abandoning a child.

The strategy to pray for the educational system in this country, simply put, is to identify the major strong spirit behind our educational system and then give the prayer strategies on how to repent, pray and make prophetic declarations that will change our schools and ultimately our nation. The first step is the identification of the strong spirit of deception that started us down the wrong path. Jesus said, “How can anyone enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can rob his house.” Our educational system began to stray when we adopted philosophies of Hedonism form the ancient Greeks, who believed that truth and moral law could come through the intellect. Thus cam the belief that if a person were educated he/she would be a better citizen. Obviously, this has not been the case as we have seen the crime rate in this country rise as well as the divorce rate, abortion rate and academic successes decline. Only a person who believes in God and has an internal moral compass can be a good citizen. One of the most famous philosophers of the mid 1900s was Any Rand. As a Jewish immigrant who had witnessed the take over of Russia by the Bolsheviks, ms Rand had a great admiration for the United States and wrote, “The United States was the first moral society in the world.” Ns Rand spend her life writing to defend a free market society. She most likely believed that the US was moral because of capitalism but the truth is, we were a moral society because we taught our children to fear God and to do what was right because there would be consequences form society as well as God when sins were committed. She was correct. We were a moral society but have digressed. God has a way back for us, if we pray.

Would you pray Colossians 4:3-4 for me as I work on and complete this project?

“And pray for me, that god may open a door for the message, so that I may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.” (Nancy’s paraphrase)
