How long do we put up with something going wrong in our lives before we get mad at the enemy and our own passiveness and take a stand? I know I have put up with a lot of things going on in my life that are not of God. I just go along and wait for God to do something. Lately the battle has been overcoming a passiveness. I’ve had difficulty returning phone calls and working on projects that I know are urgent. I just couldn’t seem to bring myself to dig in and get anything done.

While looking in my bookshelves for some source of inspiration, I ran across a book title that really interested me: This is the Day we Fight—breaking the bondage of a passive spirit by Francis Frangipane. I bought the book. The next day in the mail, I received another copy from a friend of mine who thought I would like the book. God had brought the message to me two times—so I began at once to read….

One story in the book spoke to me so prophetically that I would like to share it with you in hopes that you too will be encouraged. In a scene from the third Lord of the Rings movie, The Return of the King, Aragorn seeks to inspire his hopelessly outnumbered men against what seems like sure defeat; Hell’s swarming legions have amassed before them and the courage of Aragorn’s fighters is weakening. Riding along the front lines of his gathered, but rather lowly, army, he shouts:

“I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship. But it is not this day…This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand, men of the West.”

Would I accept this challenge, no matter what the circumstances to take my place against the forces of darkness that have assaulted me, my family, nation and the world? Will I fight against the powers and principalities that I cannot see until there is victory? I was truly inspired by the words of Aragorn to declare that This day I fight! I will not worry about tomorrow but today will be a day of victory for me because God has imparted in me and his people a fighting spirit that will not give up. Let us contend together for the faith to stand when we don’t feel like it and when the circumstances look dire. Today let us fight. Let us pray with  a new fervency and determination knowing that God is waiting on us to take our stand.
